The Shoe Fitting Process
Your Body is Unique
Step 1: Insoles

Ideally, your foot is functioning properly and you don't need an insole. However, many clients I see have a structural or strength issue in their feet. These weaknesses will cause pain or injuries in two ways: One, the weak muscles is the source of the pain or injury. Two, the weak muscle causes a different muscle to cover for it and this other muscle ends up injured. In either case, the first step to solving your injury is fixing related weaknesses.
I will watch you balance barefoot in order to test and check the function of your foot. If something is wrong, then we will determine what is not working and which insole above will help.
If you've been moving around a weakness, I commonly see secondary problems that are created by this unnatural movement. These include bones that are out of position and trigger points in muscles. Sometimes the primary weakness is not the source of pain, but rather the secondary issue. This means just fixing the primary issue won't solve the pain, and only correcting the secondary issue won't be permanent. In these cases it's important to find and fix both the primary and secondary issues for full relief.
